परिचय · Introduction

Sahayog Nepal — सहयोग नेपाल

Sahayog Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organisation registered at the District Administration Office, Lalitpur (Regd. No. 1284/074/075) and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal.

We began in the winter after the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Six of us — two teachers, a nurse, a civil engineer and two agriculture graduates — were rebuilding our own villages in Sindhupalchowk and kept running into the same problem: help arrived, but it arrived without the village in the room. So we started an organisation that puts the village in the room first.

Today we work in 38 wards across seven districts with a team of 84, of whom 61 live in the communities they serve. Our accounts are audited annually and published in full.

Our Vision

A Nepal where a child born in a hill ward in Humla has the same chance at school, health and a decent living as a child born in Kathmandu.

Our Mission

To work alongside rural communities and local governments on education, health, water, livelihoods and disaster resilience — with plans the community writes and budgets it can see.

Our Values

Transparency in every rupee, dignity before charity, women and Dalit voices in every committee, and no promise we cannot keep past the project's end.

Our Journey

From one ward to seven districts

Registered in Lalitpur with six founding members and a single reconstruction project in Melamchi. First year budget: NPR 38 lakh, entirely from Nepali donors.

Education and WASH programmes begin in Dolakha and Kavrepalanchok after ward-level assessments requested by the palikas themselves.

Mobile health camps start in Humla and Jumla in partnership with two rural municipalities and a volunteer physicians' network.

Four ongoing programmes, 64 completed projects, 46,800 people reached and a published, audited account of every rupee.
Governance

How decisions are made

A nine-member Executive Committee elected by the General Assembly every three years sets policy. Day-to-day management sits with the Executive Director. Every programme has a community-elected User Committee that holds the implementation budget.

  • General Assembly of 142 members meets annually
  • Executive Committee of 9, at least 4 women, meets quarterly
  • Independent audit by a registered CA firm each fiscal year
  • Procurement above NPR 5 lakh is publicly tendered
  • Complaint and whistle-blower channel open to communities
